From the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s, the UK experienced a dramatic surge in house prices. These house price increases were highly uneven across areas, generating substantial wealth gains for some households but not others.
In this event we will present new research on how rising house prices affected inequalities among those who grew up during the property boom. IFS researchers will discuss how differences in parents' housing wealth shaped children’s homeownership, access to high-wage regions, and labour market outcomes, and what this means for social mobility.
After the IFS presentation, there will be a response from Jan Stuhler (Professor of Economics, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid) followed by Q&A.
This event will be free to watch on the IFS website and Slido. To register to receive reminder emails when it is about to start, please click here.
