In this Briefing Note we take the opportunity to reflect on a few of the ways in which economic life has changed since the Silver Jubilee year. We start by comparing incomes now with incomes in 1977. We then look, perhaps rather more revealingly, at how we spend those incomes and what sorts of things we own. Finally, we look in a bit more detail at the labour market - the types of jobs we have and the levels of education among the workforce.
