The Institute for Fiscal Studies is holding a day of talks on issues in public economics of interest to undergraduates in economics and related disciplines. The aim will be to focus on the policy implications of research carried out at the institute.

This year's IFS Annual Lecture (delivered by professor James Banks, IFS and Manchester) will explore trends in retirement and work decisions of older workers, the effectiveness of policy in changing behaviour, and the reality of the extent to which longer working can offset the effects of an ageing population on the public finances.

This event will discuss these important questions, presenting a summary of the findings from a new special issue of the journal Fiscal Studies. This special issue describes economic trends over the Great Recession and assesses the tax and benefit reforms implemented in response by the governments of France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Pressure on pension systems in the aftermath of the crisis – OECD launch of Pensions at a Glance 2015 report

At this event IFS researchers will present an initial assessment of the consequences for government departments, the size of spending cuts required and an analysis of any new tax and benefit changes.

We explore the evolution of household wealth over the period 2006/08 to 2010/12 in a new report to be launched at this event.

This course reviews fixed effects approaches to estimation of nonlinear panel data models.

A new report, launched at this event, analyses the choice over the level of rent charged to tenants in social housing, who account for about one sixth of the population.

This course will cover some of the basics of empirical process theory and the application of the theory to problems in statistics.

Once again the Chartered Institute of Taxation (CIOT) and the Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) are jointly organising debates during this year’s party conference season, this time on the question: ‘Is the tax system fair?’

At this event we will celebrate the launch of the 2015 - 2020 Centre and showcase the work carried out by the ESRC Centre for Microeconomic Analysis of Public Policy at the IFS.
