New Chancellor Rachel Reeves presented her first Budget on Wednesday 30th October. The first Budget from a Labour Government since 2010 had the potential to shape much of the domestic policy agenda for the rest of the parliament, with difficult decisions to be made about how much to tax, how much to spend and how much to borrow. Alongside the Budget, Ms Reeves was expected to confirm individual departmental spending limits for this year and set them for next year. She also set the path of overall spending - a key constraint on next spring's multi-year spending review - for the remainder of this parliament.
IFS researchers presented their initial analysis of the Chancellor's announcements on the following day, Thursday 31st October, at an online webinar.
