At this event, IFS researchers will present the key findings from the latest in the series of flagship IFS annual reports on living standards, poverty and inequality in the UK. Funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the report will analyse the data on the distribution of household income in the UK up to and including the latest year of data for 2015-16, while setting this in the context of the very latest developments in pay, employment and inflation and what these are likely to mean for living standards.
The report will look in detail at trends in incomes and poverty, at which groups are doing better or worse, and at the underlying role of factors such as worklessness and low pay in explaining the patterns we see. It will also draw on data that follows the same households over time in order to examine the persistence of poverty for different groups, drawing out the lessons for policy and for the measurement of poverty.

Jonathan is an Associate Director and Head of Retirement, Savings and Ageing sector, focusing on pensions, savings and later-life economic activity.

Robert is a Deputy Director. His work focuses on primarily on the labour market, income and wealth inequality, and the design of the welfare system.
