Challenging Inequalities: implications of the IFS Deaton Review

Inequalities in the UK - in education, health, income, wealth and political power, as well as across places, ethnicities and genders - matter to many people and are the subject of significant public debate. Understanding the drivers of these inequalities is essential to designing appropriate policy responses across the UK, and in Scotland.

Over the past six years the IFS-Deaton Review of Inequalities, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, has produced a comprehensive body of evidence on the causes and consequences of a range of different inequalities.

This event, in partnership with and hosted by the Royal Society of Edinburgh, celebrated the conclusion of the Review, the publication of a new book, Challenging Inequalities, which draws together the project's findings, and discussed the findings of a recent report on the lessons for policymakers.
