The impact of free early education for 3 year olds in England

This note summarises the results of two related research projects. With funding from the ESRC through its Secondary Data Analysis Initiative, and the Nuffield Foundation, Jo Blanden (University of Surrey), Emilia Del Bono (University of Essex), Kirstine Hansen (Institute of Education), Sandra McNally (University of Surrey) and Birgitta Rabe (University of Essex) investigated the impact of free early education on children’s development.

Workplace pensions and remuneration in the public and private sectors in the UK

Report

In this briefing note, we estimate the value of employer-provided pensions and compare their value between public and private sector workers, and over time. We then assess what effect the incorporation of the value of workplace pensions has on the estimated differential between remuneration in the public and private sectors when measured just using pay. We also document how this changes over time and how it varies across different groups of the population.

The London Bombings and Racial Prejudice: Evidence from Housing and Labour Markets.

Report

On the 7th of July 2005 (henceforth 7/7), four extremist Islamic terrorist bombers targeted London's transport network, killing 52 passengers and injuring hundreds more. Using prerecorded statements, the bombers threatened further acts of terrorism. Indeed, just 2 weeks later, a further four suicide bombers attempted but failed to execute similar attacks.
