Chancellor Rishi Sunak is set to announce his Autumn 2021 Budget and Spending Review on Wednesday 27 October. This will need to consider the economic and fiscal outlook in the light of emerging evidence since the bulk of the UK’s Covid restrictions were lifted in July and the Prime Minister’s September announcement of a manifesto breaking tax rise to fund increases in spending on the NHS and social care. Alongside the Budget the Chancellor will be announcing the results of the first attempt at a multi-year Spending Review since 2015, with departmental totals expected for the remainder of this parliament (covering 2022–23, 2023–24 and 2024–25).

IFS researchers will present their initial analysis of the Chancellor's announcements on the public finances, spending on public services, and the tax and the benefit system on the following day, Thursday 28 October at a livestreamed press briefing.
