This event will bring together an international field of experts and senior policy-makers to discuss the big challenges with respect to in-work poverty, and what we know – and need to know – about policy effectiveness.

At this event, IFS researchers will be launching their first annual report on education spending in England, supported by the Nuffield Foundation. This will provide consistent measures of day-to-day spending per pupil in England across the four main stages of education stretching back to the early 1990s.

Every two years, IFS holds a residential conference, aiming to facilitate high-level knowledge exchange between practitioners, policymakers and academics on key areas of policy and practice. This year's conference will look at tax and industrial strategy.

The second Annual Research Conference of Banco de España will be held in their Madrid headquarters, and is being jointly organised with IFS.

This conference is jointly organised by IFS and ETPF, and will include a mix of policy and research presentations broadly looking at the issues that remain post-BEPS.

This is the twelfth in a series of lectures and debates being organised by the CIOT and the IFS to promote debate among policy-makers, opinion-formers and the wider tax and economics communities on the future of the UK and international tax systems.

At this event, IFS researchers will present the key findings from the latest in the series of flagship IFS annual reports on living standards, poverty and inequality in the UK. Funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, the report will analyse living standards in the UK up to and including the latest year of data for 2016-17, while setting this in the context of the very latest developments in pay, employment and inflation.

At this event IFS researchers drew together the conclusions of a programme of research carried out over the last two years, which sheds light on individuals’ saving for retirement and how different sources of wealth are drawn on through retirement.

40% of the growth in the UK’s workforce since 2008 has come from people working for their own business. This event showcased new IFS research on the characteristics and behaviour of this population and discussed the design of policies aimed at promoting small business.

Governments in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) need to raise sufficient tax revenues in order to invest in human and physical capital and expand social protection programmes.
