Emma is the Head of Operations at IFS, overseeing the HR, ICT and operations teams and responsible for governance within the organisation and liaising with the board of trustees. She works closely with the senior research team and affiliated academics to ensure the smooth running of the IFS. She is also responsible for overseeing collection of data about academic and impact activities and for ensuring that these are accurately recorded and disseminated.
She is a founding member of a social science think tank operations network and sits on the Royal Economics Society diversity and inclusion network.
After studying Modern and Medieval Languages at Emmanual College, Cambridge, Emma gained an MA in German Literature from King's College London. She worked for Macmillan Publishers in academic reference, before moving to the Institute for Fiscal Studies as Marketing and Publicity Officer in 1998, gradually taking on further responsibility within the organisation.
