The Institute for Fiscal Studies is launching a conference as part of the ESRC-funded programme of work on Economic Opportunities Across Racial and Ethnic Groups. The goal is to provide a forum for discussion of ongoing research and to promote new advances in the topic of racial and ethnic inequalities, which has received comparatively little attention in the UK and Europe.

We are delighted to welcome Desmond Ang (Harvard Kennedy School) and Zachary Bleemer (Princeton University) as keynote speakers.

We invite submissions of rigorous research on a broad range of dimensions of inequality across race and ethnicity, including (but not exclusively):

  • Identity
  • Education and Work
  • Health, Wealth and Wellbeing
  • Crime and experiences of the justice system

Submissions from early career researchers, including PhD students, are especially encouraged. Authors should submit full papers. For PhD students, extended abstracts detailing the research question and its novelty, context of the study, methods, data and key findings will also be accepted. We request submissions to be made by the author who is planning to present at the conference.

Submission Deadline: July 31st, 2026
Notification of Decision: August 28th, 2026

Submit your paper here.

Registration and attendance are free of charge. The conference will cover travelling and accommodation expenses for the presenting author of accepted papers.
