Nicholas Timmins is a senior fellow at the Institute for Government and the King’s Fund, and a visiting professor in social policy at the London School of Economics. A journalist by background, he was public policy editor at the Financial Times from 1996 – 2011.
He is the author of the award-winning The Five Giants: A Biography of the Welfare State (William Collins, 2017), and of Universal Credit: From Disaster to Recovery? along with a wide range of accounts of the politics and management of the National Health Service. He is a trustee of the IFS and an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.
