Autumn Statement 2016 analysis

Autumn Statement Briefing: On Wednesday 23 November Chancellor Phillip Hammond delivered his first Autumn Statement. We presented our analysis of the revised outlook for the public finances and the consequences of new tax and benefit changes at a briefing on the following day.

Latest public finance analysis: The latest analysis by IFS researchers on the outlook for the public finances (prior to revised OBR forecasts and the Autumn Statement) can be found here, and IFS Director Paul Johnson wrote an article in the Times on 15 November on the importance of flexibility for fiscal rules, which can be read on our website here. We will update our analysis on Thursday 24 November.

On 15 November, Paul Johnson gave a pre-Autumn Statement briefing hosted by the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology and presentations have also been given to the BBC. Slides from these presentations can be found here.

Living Standards, Poverty & Inequality: Here is our latest analysis of the distribution of household income in the UK, published in July. We assess changes to average incomes, income inequality and poverty that occurred in the latest year of data (2014-15), and put these in historical context using comparable data spanning the last 50 years.

Budget 2016 analysis

Chancellor George Osborne delivered his Budget on Wednesday 16 March. On Thursday 17 March, the Institute for Fiscal Studies held a post-budget briefing. Presentations included:

IFS Green Budget 2016
