Dr Ruth Patrick is a Lecturer in Social Policy at the University of York.

She currently leads three research projects, all of which have a focus on lived experiences of poverty and social security receipt. Her current research includes Covid Realities, an ambitious research programme, funded by the Nuffield Foundation, which combines a range of methodologies to explore everyday experiences for families on a low-income during the pandemic.

Ruth’s research often takes a participatory approach in efforts to generate new understandings of poverty and social security. Ruth is the author of For Whose Benefit? The Everyday Realities of Welfare Reform (Policy Press).
