Kathleen Kiernan is Emeritus Professor of Social Policy and Demography at the University of York. Her research focuses on changing family structures – including cohabitation, unmarried parenthood, and parental separation – and the implications of different family environments for child well-being and development. She was a member of The Good Childhood Inquiry and the Family Commission. In 2006 she and was awarded an OBE for services to Social Science and is a Fellow of the British Academy.
