The Spending Review on 11th June has the potential to be one of the defining domestic policy events of the parliament. It will be the first multi-year spending review since 2021, and first since 2015 to take place outside of a pandemic. Setting out the next three years of detailed departmental budgets will force the government to choose between competing public services and objectives, and to spell out its priorities.
The following day, IFS researchers presented their overnight analysis of what the Spending Review announcements mean for departments and public services, for the government’s economic and fiscal strategy, and for the potentially momentous Budget this autumn.
