At the Spending Review on 11th June, the government will set out detailed spending plans for individual departments for the next three years. These will determine how much will be spent on the NHS, the armed forces, the police, prisons, and other public services. With tight overall spending plans, and against an uncertain global economic backdrop, the government will need to decide which areas to prioritise for additional cash – and what to cut.
At this online event, Bee Boileau (Institute for Fiscal Studies) presented what we already know about the spending outlook and what the key choices will be at the Spending Review. Stuart Hoddinott (Institute for Government) presented key trends in public service performance and consider whether reforms to the Spending Review process are likely to deliver better outcomes.
